Following his studies at the Juilliard School, Tom began a musical journey that has bounced him back and forward from the US to Australia, and some other places in between. Currently a trombonist with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, Tom has performed with the Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, and Adelaide Symphony Orchestras, as well as The Queensland Orchestra, the Australian Chamber Orchestra, and Opera Australia. In the US, Burge has also appeared with the Los Angeles and New York Philharmonics, The Cleveland Orchestra, and the Symphony Orchestras in Cincinnati, Atlanta, Baltimore, Grant Park Festival, Charleston, Jacksonville, North Carolina, Augusta, Winston-Salem, and Fayetteville. Tom was Lecturer in Trombone at the Australian National University School of Music from 1999-2005 and was Brass Chair for most of his tenure.
Tom has been an ICSOM delegate since 2024, and with this transition truly values the role of serving and supporting colleagues across our profession.
