Rebecca Matayoshi, Member-at-Large

Violist Rebecca Matayoshi is currently a member of the Hawai‘i Symphony Orchestra and an acting section violist with San Diego Symphony. Prior to her appointment in Hawai‘i she was a violist with the Hyogo Performing Arts Center Orchestra in Osaka, Japan. She is an active educator in the community, serving as the viola coach at Mira Mesa and Mt. Carmel High Schools and works frequently with the San Diego Youth Symphony and Mainly Mozart Youth Orchestra. She is also the Founder and Director of Dually Noted, an organization that artistically pairs music and food (see www.duallynoted.org for details). Rebecca is a member of Locals 325 and 677, and since 2022 has served as Hawai‘i Symphony’s ICSOM delegate.

A native of Chicago, Rebecca holds a Master of Music from the New England Conservatory and a Bachelor of Music from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she attended as the Edward J. Krolick full-scholarship recipient. Principal teachers and mentors include Marcus Thompson, Masumi Rostad, Rudolf Haken, and Ralph Fielding.
