The San Antonio Symphony sent an observer to the September 1963 ICSOM meeting at which bylaws were drafted. Having been present at a formative meeting, it is listed in earlier bylaws as a charter member. However, San Antonio did not formally join ICSOM until 1968. It left ICSOM in 1970, then rejoined in 1978.
In 2022 the Symphony Society of San Antonio filed for Chapter 7 - liquidation. A new orchestra San Antonio Philharmonic has risen in its place.
