Meredith Snow re-elected to Third Term as Chair of the International Conference of Symphony and Opera Musicians

Pittsburgh, PA, August 17, 2021

Meredith Snow, a violist in the Los Angeles Philharmonic, has been re-elected to a third term as Chairperson of the International Conference of Symphony and Opera Musicians (ICSOM) at ICSOM's annual conference, held August 11–14, 2021, in Pittsburgh, PA. Snow has held the position since 2016.

“I am honored and excited to be re-elected to serve as Chair of ICSOM,” said Snow. “We stand at a point of great change and uncertainty in the orchestral world, as the effects of the pandemic on our orchestras and audiences continue to reverberate. ICSOM stands ready to help our colleagues and their communities navigate these brave new waters.”

“Meredith’s leadership during the COVID pandemic has been exem- plary” said ICSOM President Paul Austin. “As ICSOM's Chairperson, her style is one of collaboration and inclusion, which lends itself especially well to these challenging times.”

ICSOM welcomes three new members to its Governing Board. Mike Muszynski has been elected Editor Senza Sordino. A bassoonist with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra since 2015, Muszynski received a Bachelor and Master of Music degrees, plus a Bachelor of Engineering, from Northwestern University, and has formerly served as delegate to ICSOM from the ISO as well as delegate to ROPA from the Atlanta Ballet and Atlanta Opera Orchestras. Alberto Suarez and Kenneth Thompkins were elected to serve as Members-At-Large at this year’s conference. Principal Horn of the Kansas City Symphony since 2006, Alberto Suarez has written and spoken frequently on the subject of diversity and inclusion. He is a member of the Artist Council for the National Alliance for Audition Support. Kenneth Thompkins, Principal Trombone of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) since 1997, was a former participant in the DSO’s African American Fellowship Program and a mentor to several DSO Orchestra Fellows over the years.

Re-elected for a third term as Member-at-Large is Dan Sweeley, a horn player with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. Dan was also chosen to serve as ICSOM's elected delegate to the 2022 convention of the American Federation of Musicians.

Muszynski replaces Peter de Boor, who was elected Treasurer. A horn player in the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra since 1997, de Boor was first elected to the editor position in 2014. He succeeds former treasurer Michael Moore, Principal Tuba in the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, who stepped down after 19 years as treasurer and 30 years as a member of the ICSOM Governing Board.
