Within the past few months, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra negotiated a new three-year contract, launched its music and wellness website, and completed its fortieth major tour. Virginia Symphony musicians performed in a benefit concert on April 14th to support relief efforts of the Red Cross in Japan. The chamber music event was titled “Benefit Concert for Tomodachi” (友達, or tomodachi, being Japanese for “friend” or “friends”). The Alabama Symphony was named “Nonprofit Organization of the Year” at the Birmingham Business Journal’s ninth annual Best In Business Awards banquet.
