Meredith Snow re-elected Chairperson of the International Conference of Symphony and Opera Musicians

Cincinnati, OH, August 2018

Meredith Snow, a violist in the Los Angeles Philharmonic, has been re-elected to her second term as Chairperson of the International Conference of Symphony and Opera Musicians (ICSOM) at ICSOM's annual conference, held August 22-25, 2018, in Cincinnati, OH. Snow has held the position since 2016.

Also re-elected were Michael Moore (Atlanta Symphony Orchestra) as treasurer, Peter de Boor (Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra) as editor of ICSOM’s publication Senza Sordino, and Greg Mulligan (Baltimore Symphony Orchestra) and Daniel Sweeley (Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra) as members-at-large.

"I am honored and excited to be re-elected to serve as Chair of ICSOM," said Snow. "It has been gratifying to see our member orchestras thrive, with progressive settlements for the twenty-two of fifty-two orchestras that reached agreement this past year. Though we face challenges regarding our American Federation of Musicians and Employers' Pension Fund (AFM-EPF), we will continue to advocate collectively for legislative action to help musicians and other workers protect their retirement benefits."

“Meredith’s leadership has been outstanding. Our unity with the rest of the American Federation of Musicians has grown even stronger, and we have built relationships with other stakeholders in the arts,” said ICSOM President Paul Austin.

At this year's conference, a panel discussion on diversity featured the Los Angeles Philharmonic's Bass Trombonist and delegate, John Lofton. “I greatly appreciate the attention that Meredith has brought to this important and neglected issue,” said Lofton.

Snow, a native of Long Island, New York, received her bachelor's and master's degrees from the Juilliard School. A former member of the Colorado String Quartet, she became a member of the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 1986 after three years with the San Francisco Opera Orchestra. She appears often with the Philharmonic Chamber Music Society and the Philharmonic New Music Group, and performs at the Music in the Mountains Festival in Durango, Colorado, every summer. Snow lives in the San Fernando Valley with her husband and son.

The International Conference of Symphony and Opera Musicians (ICSOM) represents nearly 4000 symphonic musicians in the top 52 orchestras in the United States and Puerto Rico. ICSOM's mission is to promote a better and more rewarding livelihood for the skilled orchestral performer and to enrich the cultural life of our society.
